You look awesome and so much happier! Good to see. Glad you’re taking some of the hair cutting into your own hands that will give you the control you need. I had a really good day today too. I actually looked at myself as a whole today which I haven’t done since I started wearing hair 5 months ago. I started off with a small topper then a really bad synthetic wig which was supposed to be temporary and it would’ve had to last until next week which is when I finally get my custom order. I thought when I first started wearing hair a small topper and blending it with my hair would be a good place to start…Not! I ended up getting my biohair colored at the salon…so much fell out. Summer is bad shedding time for me and then I added salon coloring and someone else combing out my hair. I don’t comb and wash my hair the way she did. It was like she was dethatching (getting rid of all the dead stuff) a bush. I lost so much hair and the little topper was awful to try and blend in with my hair. I learned…no more salon coloring, no more de-thatching, or combing and styling by a salon. I also learned my lesson. My hair has actually thickened up a bit since that awful experience. I learned I will color and control my own biohair. It’s only visible at the sides and top and a little mixed thru and the back. Stylists don’t get it. My stylist is also my wig stylist and I thought that would make a difference but it did not. I felt like I could go get my hair done like everyone else and enjoy it…I was very wrong and endured more than a week of waiting and despair and ordering another wig (the awful temporary synthetic.) and then finally my human hair wig which is the closest to my hair before hair loss as possible. Next week I get two custom made wigs and its stirring up all this emotion because I don’t know what to expect from them and I spent a ton. From every experience good or bad we do learn something…like it or not.
Soo-love Tatiana..color is so natural!!!
Does your head feel cooler under the wigs now that its really short? Also- do you ever walk around the house without the wigs on? Ok and lastly, the dreaded question, what to do if you have to go swimming!! Yikes!
Glad to see you are happy and feeling more in control. We need you! I think for me and maybe other people, there is so much anxiety about dealing with our hair loss. We worry about everything. Making the decision to wear hair, what type of wig or hair piece, what color, style, finding someone to cut and style it, what do we do with any hair we have left, color, cut or shave it, the expense and can we afford it, how long will it last, will anyone notice, will it ever fall off, how about the wind and rain and heat and exercise. Also will the wig place, hair dresser etc. ever move or go out of business? When will I think about it less and stop looking at everyone’s hair every where I go and in every movie or newscast I watch. All we can be sure of is that everything changes and I’m grateful that this website helps to answer some of these questions. Best wishes for everyone.
Can you recommend a wig salon in the NJ/NY area?
Happy to see your old, scratch that, young, smily self 🙂
Now, just a word of warning on the razor – don’t keep it close to the wine, cuz, just saying, something like that happened to me 😉
Yay for the smiles – we NEED you.
Happy Friday,
xxoo Lina
Hey Lina ! Already commented on facebook page about video but wanted to say Hi to you and all the women on the forum. I think Ive logged in on so many places now I don’t know who I talked to where. But hey, that’s PROGRESS, I spent almost 2 yrs just reading and crying on here.lol
Hope all is good with you. I havent gone back to the “lazer lady” since I last wrote , but I feel like I want to. haha
Hope your rescue baby is doing better ! Both of mine our rescues too.
And you are right…we do NEED YOU “Y”!(Bunch of needy women!lol) There is no way to count the number of women(vocal and silent) that she has helped. I wish I could put it into words better than I do.
Now.. TELL US about the wine and the razor ????? :D:D
XOXOXO
Hey Phillygrl! Glad to hear you having some fun chatting it up 🙂
My rescue baby is on the mend but he had a setback the other day – don’t worry, I am a hovering “mother”.
I shaved my head the first time, because I had a bad shed, followed by a pity party, my friend red wine came over to console me and I saw the clippers when I went in to brush my teeth before bed and voila! Bzzzzzzzz! I don’t know how it happened 🙂
Yes, we definitely all need each other! I’ve spent this past week in palliative care with my Uncle, boy a lot of time to reflect on life and all it’s ups and downs, good and bad. My hair loss really sucks big ones but I think I am finally able to put it into perspective for me and that is a big step.
Hugs to you all
Lina 🙂
Looking so gorgeous! I think Tatiana looks amazing too! that hair! I just want to run my fingers through it girl! Have an excellent weekend.
Thank you for the comments ladies! So much appreciated!!!
@ B – I’m so happy to hear you where able to look at yourself as a WHOLE. It’s so hard to do, but that is how others see us, they aren’t focusing on just our hair, they see us as a whole and if we could start doing that for ourselves more and more, we’d definitely have an easier time. You salon story sounds like a nightmare, omg, I’m so sorry you had to go through that. While it is probably inevitable that most people will have to rely on others somewhat to take care of their bio hair (cut and color) I just think once we’re in hair the more we can be on top of ourselves, the easier it might be. If you are having someone cut your hair, be on them… Like a hawk, speak up all the way through. I can guarantee what happened to me a few weeks ago will never, ever ever ever happen again. Since I’m late in writing everyone back, your next week, is now this week… when do you get your new custom wigs. I want to hear about them, please keep us posted! And yes, from every experience we do learn something… I learned to make sure to pin your eyelids back and keep focused during the whole CUT and above all else, no matter how long that stylist has been cutting your hair, don’t fall asleep at the switch on any hair cut and assume they’ll do a good job again. Be watching and be VERY clear on what is important to you and what you need.
@Hope4hair – My head never was hot when I had longer hair, so it is kinda of the same in that respect, but I think they fit better because there is just less under there. Yes I walk around the house without my wig at night. Once I know I’m in for the night, I’ll shake that girl off and go Au Naturel…And as for swimming, never been a water gal 🙂
@Gls – You nailed it, the only thing we CAN be sure of is that everything changes, and we have to learn to adapt and roll with it. Easier said than done, and we will stumble along the way, but I believe with support and a desire to want more for ourselves, that we can get past all of this and reclaim ourselves.
@Carrie – Are you looking for Follea or other brands?
@lina – It’s so funny, so many comments came my way about the razor being so close to Tatiana, ha ha. I’m sorry for scaring everyone. I treated Tatiana to a spa day in light of being so careless with her life 🙂 Yay for smiles indeed!
@phillygrl – I replied to you on Facebook, but just want to say…. MUAH! You always say the sweetest things!
@Ann T- When I pass by Tatiana in the bathroom, I alway have to touch her LOL
XOXO ((HUGS))
Went today to get my custom wigs. They do look really great but they were way lighter than they should be to match my hair ( i use my bangs and sides to mix in with the wig. She has to reverse foil in some darker color to make it darker throughout. I am not freaking as I really like the stock wig I have so feel like I have time to make them right. I will keep you posted I go on Tuesday and will have them cut. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Your hair looks great!
